The inevitable is announced. Yahoo! already owns the Inktomi and Overture search engines. With Google’s IPO causing such a fuss in the Internet community, it was only a matter of time until Yahoo! dropped Google and made a run on their own.
It will be interesting to see if Yahoo! can recover any of the consumer mindshare that it once had, and has lost to Google. Google is now so well known that it’s become a verb, (even if they don’t want to be). Yahoo! has never attained that level of cultural status.
On the other hand, the last few months have not been clear-sailing for Google in the eyes of the internet community, as Business Week Reports.
Should be an interesting ride….
