Well, that was fun.

Not one half hour after I got all the wireless stuff working, the hard drive in my just-outta-warranty Dell laptop crashed.  I was mourning the loss of 3 months of un-backed up digital pictures of our kids more than anything else.  I need a better backup solution as the CD burner that came with this Dell isn’t a reliable or painless way to back up the system.  More thought on that coming.

In the end, though the good folks at http://computers-and-more.net/ here in Holland installed a new harddrive and were able to restore all my data from the old one, all in about 4 1/2 hours time.  Thanks guys!

So even though I don’t listen when other poeple say it, back up those files!

    Mike,

I was talking to our IS manager from my old group last week.  Mike (his name as well) mentioned that he had purchased an external USB harddrive (Seagate?) for use as a back-up unit.  It apparently came with software that automatically saved all changes made to files in designated directories.

He was impressed with it and that’s a pretty good recommendation.
