Blog:

A Web site that is frequently updated with posts or short dated entries in reverse chronological order so that the most recent information is listed first.  Blogs usually represent the personality of the author allow readers to comment on each post. Derived from “weblog”.

Blog blog blog.

Everywhere you go online these days, you run into blogs.  Al Roker has one, William Shatner has one, RuPaul has one, even the executives at GM have one. Parade Magazine ran an article on blogging this past weekend.  In that same Sunday newspaper, both Doonesbury and The Lockhorns mentioned blogs.  There are blogs about hats, small business marketing, blogs from car dealers, and blogs from air conditioning contractors associations.

Let’s face it—blogs are now mainstream.

From a business perspective, I am absolutely sold on the use of blogs.  Blogs offer a number of distinct advantages over “traditional” web sites for businesses, from a technical perspective, to a marketing perspective, to a user-oriented perspective.

I’m working on an article that will outline the “business blog advantage” in great detail - look for it here on Boyink.com soon.

Until then, long time tech-writer and critic John Dvorak has posted an excellent primer on Understanding and Reading a blog.
