Visualizing What Doesn’t Exist

Joel on Software - The Iceberg Secret, Revealed: “Don’t, for a minute, think that you can get away with asking anybody to imagine how cool this would be.”

Recently on a site rebuild I took the time to write a very detailed (14 pages!) specification in order to get informal “sign-off” on the design direction.  No major issues came up, so the project proceeded according to spec.  Once I started having actual working pages to show, however, then people had plenty to say!

I’ll continue to write good specifications, but will spend more time communicating them and accompanying them with visual prototypes.
