Life is full of irony. The very same day Dean at HealYourChurchWebsite.com posts:
“In case you’ve missed the point, even your church website should go through some form of a needs assessment and/or requirements analysis before you write a single line of code.”
I throw caution to the wind and went from “what should the URL be?” to “here’s the site” in around 12 hours…with a total time spent on the site at about the hour and a half mark.
Why so little due dilligence?
Sometimes quick and dirty is just the ticket. Sometimes a website is needed in order to determine what kind of website is needed.
Manna is such a case. The group is fairly new, and still working through what they feel God is calling them to be (“What is it?”). They needed a basic site to point people to, to put on cards and brochures, and a place to openly refine their identity and purpose.
ExpressionEngine to the rescue - inexpensive, powerful, and extremely flexible. We decided the domain name at 9:30 AM, ordered the hosting from pMachine Hosting at around 1:00 PM, the account was setup around 4:45 PM, and by 8:00 PM or so I had done some basic content entry and template tweaking. And didn’t miss supper…;)
It’s definitely a “work in progress”, but since that’s a major hallmark of the group the site was built for, in this case it’s a perfect fit.
