Everything becomes email, according to some theories. Usenet, for example, was blended into mail clients, treating the usenet post like an email message. Completely hiding the plumbing from users, the differences ceased to matter. The usenet post became just another email message. Perhaps blogging tools will also blend into mail clients.
An interesting post from the Klogs Yahoo Group. Somewhat spooky, as I recently starting getting blog content (via RSS feeds) into Microsoft Outlook through the use of a plug in. While reading a post there recently I clicked “reply” and had my comments half typed in before it hit me - where is this reply going to go? Nowhere, as it turns out, but why shouldn’t I be able to post a reply in Outlook and have it go to the comments section on that weblog?
Also - both blog programs I’ve used (Radio Userland and currently pMachine) have add-ons that allow you to post to your blog via email.
FWIW - I think most of the predictions in this message are dead-on. I’ve been waiting to see what Microsoft will do about blogging, and it only makes sense for them to fold it into their existing products - adding features is what they do best.
