Gesture Interfaces for Automotive Control

http://www.autofieldguide.com/articles/070307.html
“The idea is that rather than fumbling with dials you can make an appropriate gesture to make things happen,” says Ed Schlesinger, co-director of the General Motors Collaborative Laboratory at CMU.

Sometimes it’s sooooo obvious when someone doesn’t have young kids in the car…;)

To be fair, the researchers have established the “hot zone” for your gestures to be roughly in the area of your gearshift, so any movements towards your kids (or other drivers) woudn’t be interpreted by the car.

Still, gimme simplicity in my cars.  The less the machine tries to think for me, the better.
