Father Son Project Quadcycle Complete!

Well - it took just over a year, but this build was more about the journey than the destination.  The idea was to build something together to both spend time in the garage and learn basic hand and power tool use.

Harrison is now 13 - so age-wise it’s right about when you might start to consider a go-cart or minibike, but we have miles of bikepaths around our house and this way there is no fuel costs or noise, it’s environmentally friendly and promotes exercise besides.

I found plans for this quadcycle online at http://www.americanspeedster.com/.  I won’t say they are the most detailed or well-written instructions, but instead will say they provided many opportunities for problem solving, reverse-engineering, and the value of re-work..;)

We did buy the kit of the more specialized parts - probably a good decision based on the amount of time it took us even with the hard stuff done.  The cycle has 5 speeds, brakes, and took two donor bikes for all the wheels.

Here’s a quick video of the process and result!

That’s pretty cool Mike, well done on getting it finished! :)

I look forward to trying out some projects like this with my own son when he gets a bit older (he’s just about to turn 3 so a while to go yet!).
