According to WebSideStory’s StatMarket data published this week:
* 74 percent of visitors reach sites by direct navigation (type the URL) or bookmarks.
* 16 percent of visitors reach sites via links from other sites.
* 11 percent of visitors reach sites via search engines.

Interesting stuff. Looks like the actual WebSideStory data is only available to subscribers—too bad as I’d love to know what types of sites were included in the dataset. The sites that I can analyze the statistics on still show a healthy amount of search traffic coming in.
I’m guessing the data included sites with ties to well-known brands, where people would more easily be able to just type the URL and be more inclined to do so.
Still - the whole notion of “surfing” is one I’d like to expunge from the web vocabulary, along with “e-” anything.
