ClickZ: Falk Offers Pop-up Blocker Workaround

Online ad management firm Falk eSolutions AG has bowed technology that detects pop-up blockers and automatically converts pop-up and pop-under inventory into alternate rich media formats, mostly floating ads, on the fly. Full Article >>

If this is the technology demonstrated on Falks Home Page, Mozilla with AdBlock installed still kills their cra..uh…highly creative advertising technology solution.

It’s amazing just how much companies still don’t get it.  How effective can an advertisement be when it comes in a package your potential customer detests?

I’m an online marketer by trade, and so I understand the base motivation of those who would try and take advantage of this new “technology.”

But they are ignoring the broader picture.  I can’t tell you how many times in any given month that my boss and I say something like, “Our customers would hate that - it might be effective in terms of short-term conversion rates (which is what the advertising provider always tries to sell me on), but what will it do in terms of long-term branding and reputation if we alienate our customers?”

Much better I think to take the high road and serve your customers long-term rather than just try to get a quick purchase in the short-term.

To this sounds like the Shoshkele revisited, or in this case regurgitated when a pop-up or pop-under blocker is detected.

It also sounds like it is going to be short-lived if as the ClickZ article asserts ‘it may turn out to be a band-aid for a doomed ad medium … in the face of growing consumer control.’
