Work Zone.
Right Lane Closed Ahead.
Fines Doubled in Work Zone.
Be Prepared for Backups.
We were driving on US31 north of Muskegon this week, and drove past these signs. We had the same expectations you’re probably having right now - “Great. Construction.”
Rounding the bend, we slowed for a flagman, who wavved us back into the “closed” right lane. Now not quite sure what was going on, we slowly drove past 3-4 cars stopped in the left lanes. The other sign we had driven past now clicked - “Traffic Survey”. But you’d expect workers out with tripods and scopes, while in this case it was workers with clipboards.
Yes - the State of Michigan evidently feels it can interrupt private, law-abiding citizens happily rolling down the highway in the middle of the day just to ask a few questions.
I can’t seem to dig up anything on the internet about this event, and can’t attest to the content of the survey - we were routed around it coming home as well.
But nonetheless, I’m angered both at the audacity of this, and that my tax dollars are being spent doing it. I’d really appreciate it if someone could point me to more information on the nature and intent —and legality - of this “traffic survey”.
