Buck Up, Michigan Web-heads!

“Michigan is leading the global transformation to a knowledge-based, idea-driven economy,” Governor Granholm said.” Link >>.

Yes - you heard that right.  Forget Washington.  And let’s not even think about California or California or California.  Michigan - lowly old Michigan is not just participating in but leading the global transformation to a knowledge-based idea-driven economy.

Pretty impressive for a state that’s tied for the highest unemployment rate in the country.  I guess us Michigan-based web-heads are just extra hard workers.

What - you didn’t know Michigan was so important to the internet economy?

Trouble is, no one else does either.  That’s why the Michigan government is taking bids for “Quality of Life eMarketing Campaign” designed to promote the state as place with “new economy jobs” and a lifestyle attractive to young professionals.

Not Your Father’s Oldsmobile”, anyone?

Rather than spend money trying to convince people of Michigan’s “coolness”, I agree with an editorial (I can’t remember where I read it) that said the Michigan government should instead come up with a tuition payback program for college graduates that stay in the state.  “People respond to incentive” it said.

Not marketing campaigns.

This campaign is so full of overstatements and oversimplifications…oh heck…lies.

I’m voting for Boyink and his tuition reimbursement program!

I don’t like the “Forget Washington” statement :)

I also like your tuition reimbursement program…great idea.
