It installs in minutes, automatically recognizes and supports all major network clients and platforms, and requires very little administration or support.
After yesterday’s laptop hardrive fiasco it became clear that a better, more automated way of backing things up was a necessity. I’ve been responsible for tape-based systems in the past, and knew I didn’t want to babysit one of those again. Anything CD or DVD-based had the same issues - I’m terrible about remembering things like switching out the media every day.
I thought about adding another PC to our network but really need just just file storage and backup and maintaining another Windows machine (with Microsoft’s current licensing model) seemed overkill.
So the requirements became:
- Automated backup
- No removeable media
- Standalone
- Networked
- Not reliant on Windows
This little Snap server looks to fit the bill perfectly.
