In light of the path already taken by the law, it is clear that many commercial Web sites will be subject to accessibility requirements. The question therefore is not whether the ADA applies to the Internet, but whether its application is going to be managed in an orderly way, so as to minimize costs and maximize benefits for all, or whether, under the pretext of deregulation, we are going to leave the process to inconsistency, chaos and fear.
The National Council on Disability has published a position paper on the ADA as it applies to the web. I skipped to the conclusion as it’s a loooong scroller but looks to be a good one to print out and read in detail as time allows.
