It has been learned through public and private sources that AOL has cut or will cut the remaining team working on Mozilla in a mass firing and are dismantling what was left of Netscape (they’ve even pulled the logos off the buildings). Some will remain working on Mozilla during the transition, and will move to other jobs within AOL.

“A few decades ago,” observes Charles Siegel in the American Enterprise Online, “the typical American family was supported by a man working a 40-hour week. Today, the typical family is supported by a couple working an 80-hour week. Families are overworked because they are overspent. For example, the average American drives twice as much today as in 1970, and the average new home is 50 percent larger than in 1970. Are we better off with bigger homes and no time to spend together in them?”

  5. Well, that was fun.

Not one half hour after I got all the wireless stuff working, the hard drive in my just-outta-warranty Dell laptop crashed.  I was mourning the loss of 3 months of un-backed up digital pictures of our kids more than anything else.  I need a better backup solution as the CD burner that came with this Dell isn’t a reliable or painless way to back up the system.  More thought on that coming.

In the end, though the good folks at http://computers-and-more.net/ here in Holland installed a new harddrive and were able to restore all my data from the old one, all in about 4 1/2 hours time.  Thanks guys!

So even though I don’t listen when other poeple say it, back up those files!
