  2. Michigan Republican Party now Spamming
    August 11, 2006 in Other

What a mess.  I’m normally not a very political person, but I got myself into it this year.

It all started when, in a moment of weakness I signed an online petition to lower gas prices in Michigan.  I forgot that it was an election year, and this was less about actually doing something lower the price of gas than being able to say you “tried” to lower the price of gas (Granholm has been touting this petition in her TV ads).

The true goal, it seems, was to gather email addresses in order to send out “re-elect me spam” that doesn’t even conform to the federal CAN-SPAM requirements because it didn’t include an unsubscribe link.

You’d think that would be bad enough, wouldn’t you?

  3. A List Apart: Articles: Where Am I?
August 9, 2006 in Web Implementation

It seems strange to be talking about something as basic as “navigation” 11 years into the web era. And yet, if you’re a web designer, chances are you’ve made some mistakes in this fundamental area. I know I have. So let’s go back to basics. Link to Full Article on AListApart >>

  4. StoriesAboutGod.org Updates
August 8, 2006 in Web Implementation

If you haven’t checked out StoriesAboutGod lately, there are a couple of new stories posted.

I also did some work on the story entry page - adding buttons for common text formatting (bold, italic, etc), and worked on getting the preview to look more like the story will once posted.

  5. Laptop #3 - Yoouuure Up!
    August 1, 2006 in Other

Looks the average lifespan of a laptop is about 2 years for me.  I just killed laptop #2 - a Compaq Presario 2100.  It’s developed a case of the lock-upsspontaneousrebootsBSODs.  It might be salvageable, but I can’t spare the time to mess with it.  Laptop #1 was a Dell Latitude that developed a case of the “monitorwon’tlightupitus” after 14 months or so.

Overall I haven’t been happy with either #1 or #2 - they both lost hard drives under warranty and #2 killed a battery that wasn’t covered, even though I had an extended warranty.

Soooo…#3 is a Gateway MX3230.  We’ll see how the dependability is, at least you can get a decently small/light laptop now at a reasonable pricepoint.

Oh…the joy of getting a new computer to a usable point again….
