I found out this past week that an inside rearview mirror is required in Michigan to be street legal, so I was anxious to get one installed. This is a GM S10/Jimmy mirror with integrated map lights.
I decided to mount it to the rollcage so that it would still be usable with the w/s folded down, and so that it could be mounted higher and not block my forward vision.
I fabbed up a little rollcage bracket, and attached the mirror button to it by drilling a 1/4” hole and welding through it, and welding the bottom edge. Once done welding I ground the surface flat so the mirror would slip on again. The button end of the mirror arm is actually upside down from how it mounted in the Jimmy, but I think it will be OK.
I still need to cleanup the wiring job, but the lights will sure come in handy:
This is the approximate view I have from the driver’s seat now. While I probably won’t be able to see much out the rearview with the top on, the spare tire pretty much blocks it all anyway. Much more important to keep the forward visibility good.
