Tie Downs

I like sturdy tie downs on a trailer.  I wanted more than just the tarp hooks on the outside of the Bantam.

These are 5000 lb. units from Northern Tool.  They were made to be surface mounted, but were too wide - they straddled the ribs in the floor and wouldn’t sit flush.

So I mounted them underneath, welded to the frame along one edge (in the back), and also tied to the frame using 1” strap metal.  Here’s how they’re tied in up front:

A small hole under the ring allows them to double as drains for the trailer.  The holes get plugged really fast, so I finally came up with the solution of opening the tie down, then slipping a piece of window screen in, slit to fit over the ring, then I push the ring flat.  This makes the screen stick up around the entire tie-down hole, and seems to be keeping it from getting clogged up with junk from the trees, etc.
