Where to get parts and information for the Bantam BT3-C and other 1/4 ton Jeep trailers.

When I started the restoration of this trailer, there wasn’t a whole lot of knowledge about them on the internet.  The best overall guide was, and still is the:
Jeep Trailer Spotter’s Guide hosted by Derek Redmond over at his CJ3B site.

But there wasn’t a WillysTech-like email list just for the trailers, so I started one:
The Bantam Trailer Yahoo Group.

For parts, many of the Bantam BT3-C parts are simply Jeep parts from the same era (1950’s).  Things like springs, shackles, hubs and bearings can be ordered from any supplier that deals in the early Jeeps.  I purchased parts from both:
Four Wheel Drive Hardware and Carl Walck.

I bought both a flat tarp, and covered wagon style canvas (yet to be installed) from:

There some other vendors listed in the BantamTrailer Yahoo Group’s Vendor Database - but if you need some of the trailer specific parts like a-frames, landing legs, axles, or lunette rings it’s well worth joining the group,and putting a post out.

   Need to find a set of round fenders and the push button brake handle for the M100 Trailer.  I am doing some modifications to the trailer to make it period correct for WWII.  Can anyone help me out on where to find these parts

   I would like to know where i can get a replacement floor panel for my m100 Trailer and does any one know how much they cost. I tried clicking on the link but it wouldnt work. I also need to find the pin that you pull out to move the landing leg up or down. Thanks

   Just got an early 1946 (serial #406) in very good condition EXCEPT that they replaced the ball hitch with an extended tongue/ball hitch. I got the landing leg witht he frame casting but need the original ball hitch. Anyone have a pix of what one looks like? From the pix I have found the hitch is the old screw type but the pix is too small to give an details as to what I am searching for. tks K

   Checked my local steel fab shop for C channel that maches the frame material.
   All they are aware of is the thicker extruded type of C channel. Any suggestions on suppliers for the correct material. Trailer industry ect ?

   The only way to exactly match the original frame is to have some sheet metal bent up.  I looked at that route but got an estimate of $800 to replicate the frame.

   I had my frame made out of the standard C channel and angle, cost $125…but that was 4 years ago before the steel rates went up.

   Seriously…once the trailer is together very few people are going to be able to look under it and know that it’s a one-off custom frame.

   I was also able to easily weld on a rear reciever since the frame was able to take it.

   AFIAK your only real options are to find another trailer with one, watch eBay, post a want ad to the Bantam Trailer list, or on the g503 site, and/or on the WillysTech site.

    I just picked up a civilian model, of what and make I dont have a clue.  The body is similar to the m416 but the frame is lighter duty and the neck/tounge is also, tailgate too.  At first glance it looks like its military but it isnt.  Does anybody know where I might find info on old 40-50’s trailers.  I can post pics if anybody wants to see it.

    Great looking trailer!!

    One question for you…..Where would i get a pair of bearing seals…mine are shot!!  Looks like they are leather…that’s old to todays time…

    I picked up a BT3-C two weeks ago for $400.  It needs work but it fits the bill.  I’m greedy enough to say that I still have my eyes out for an M416 as well.

    My only problem with the BT3 is that I cannot locate a VIN# for it.  No Data plates are visible under the tub as well.  Possible I’m just overlooking it.

    Finding the VIN is critical as I need a VIN to register it in NJ.  The previous owner (Mike on Craigs List) never had it registered and provided me with a non notarized reciept.  My fault for not getting it notarized

    Helpful tThoughts from anyone?  Thanks in advance.

    Greedy me.  I have my eyes on another BT3-C that I will check out tomorrow.  Wife agreed to consider it my Father’s Day gift albeit early. Looks to be in much better shape than the the current one I just picked up as a true project.  The “new” one has the side rails, bows, and tarp.  Looks to be real clean.  I’m still facing the problem of registering them in NJ as neither one has a title.  The second one at least has a VIN#.  Any word out there about a possible Bantam Trailer meetup of Jamboree?
